Dr. Matthew J. Higgins joined the strategic management faculty in 2005. His research interests center primarily on the management of R&D portfolios, firm responses to productivity changes and the performance implications of these decisions. In particular, he focuses on mergers and acquisitions; strategic alliances; and, the nature of the agreements underlying these relationships. Most of this research has been conducted within the context of the pharmaceutical industry. His research has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and the Journal of Corporate Finance. Dr. Higgins was also the recipient of the National Science Foundation's Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship Fellowship (IGERT). In addition his research has received funding from the Georgia Research Alliance, Kauffman Foundation and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
