Georgia Tech College of Management has named Gary Jones as Professor of the Practice of Finance.
Professor of the Practice is a prestigious and highly selective rank at Georgia Tech, conferred to practitioners who have an international reputation for excellence and an extensive background in a field related to the Institute.
Jones, a 1971 College of Management alumnus (IM) who holds an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, is retired managing director of Credit Suisse First Boston.During his more than 30 years working on Wall Street, Jones served as a guest lecturer at some of the world’s top business schools, including Darden, Columbia University, and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
In fall 2007, Jones began teaching the Management of Financial Institutions course for Georgia Tech undergraduate and MBA students. He’s offering the course again this semester.
“Gary Jones loves Georgia Tech,” says College of Management Dean Steve Salbu. “Among the many ways he gives back to the Institute, he has added teaching, with some of the highest student evaluations here or at any top business school in the world. I know students will continue to tell me that his class is among the very best experiences they've had at Georgia Tech.
“In addition to the great knowledge and experience Gary imparts in his own lectures, he brings into his classes each semester a series of star practitioners from the financial services industry that is paralleled at no other business school in the world,” Salbu adds. “And most of these guest speakers are Georgia Tech alumni.”
Jones serves as a member of the Georgia Tech Foundation Board of Trustees where he is on the Executive Committee and the Investment Committee. Inducted into the College of Management’s Hall of Fame for alumni in 2004, he also serves on the College of Management Advisory Board, of which he was Chairman for three years; the College of Management's Development Committee; and the Alexander-Tharpe Board of Trustees.
